This may be a somewhat disturbing question, but as a non-native speaker, the word carnival seems very similar to a totally different word called cannibalism.
I’m well aware of the difference between those two words, but I always wonder there are any underlying (historical) reasons that those two words happen to be similar at least in terms of the pronunciation.
